John Hyde is Principle at USB Design By Example, a consultancy firm he created after 'retiring' from Intel in 2002. John has been involved in USB since its inception and wrote his first USB Design By Example book in 1999. He works with a wide variety of USB folk in architecture, design and debug of their embedded products. He has written five "How-To" books and is now working on an update to his SuperSpeed book and a new USB Type-C Design By Example book. He earned a B.Sc in Electronics from Southampton University and now lives in Portland, OR.

I am about half way through John Hyde's book and I have learned a lot about the FX3. The examples alone make the book worth the price. I also got the EZ-USB FX3 Superspeed Explorer Kit and the companion CPLD board which are a great bargain. The book and boards will show you everything you need to know to get a USB 3.0 application up and running. Cypress provides all of the software to construct a complete development environment FOR FREE. If you have the need to develop a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed device, this is definitely the cost effective way to get started and get done fast. Buy this book and the EZ-USB FX3 Superspeed Explorer Kit now.
A good intro to RTOSes, USB3, and the Cypress FX3 chip in particular. However, doesn't go into interfacing the FX3 with other chipsets (MPU, etc.), and although you could easily come up with something yourself after reading this, I wish it had given some insights into that area.
is ok for what it covers. Some information is sketchy. Requires a Windows machine. Requires buying a couple of boards to try the examples.
This is a good guide to use with the Cypress eval board.It will get you and running quickly. As a guide it will give you a good foundation so when you dive into the data sheet and app notes you have a good idea of what you are looking for.
Would have liked more detail in some areas overall very good.
